Radio and TV ads raising awareness about Wisconsin’s Voter ID requirement hit the airwaves this week. There are many different forms of ID that can used
“We put the ads out earlier this year, but we didn’t have any budget for them,” said Reid Magney with the Wisconsin Elections Commission. That changed last month when the legislature’s budget panel allocated $250,000 for an education campaign about the law. The message of the ads is that most people already have the needed ID. If not, they can get one free at the DMV.
Magney said the ads are out now for good reason.
“Once we get into September and October and early November, the airwaves are going to be jammed with political ads,” he said. “We’re afraid that the message will be lost during that time.”
