Milwaukee police reported fewer arrests and decreased violence overnight in the city’s Sherman Park neighborhood. On Saturday and Sunday nights, Milwaukee police deployed near where an officer shot and killed an armed man, 23-year-old Sylville K. Smith, on Saturday.
Police have said Smith was turning towards the officer with a gun in his hand at the time of the shooting.
Protests turned violent both nights. Businesses and vehicles were burned out, several officers were injured, and two people suffered gunshot wounds as shot spotter recorded scores of shots fired on both nights. Police made 17 arrests overnight Saturday, and 14 more overnight Sunday, according to information posted at the MPD website The Source. There were 10 arrests overnight Monday, and no injuries or damage to vehicles, businesses or residences.
