A Wisconsin congressman is glad the makers of EpiPen will offer a cheaper generic version of the auto-injector for life-threatening allergies. “The drug establishment is to be commended for creating these things, but it was an out of line price increase,” said 6th District Representative Glenn Grothman.
There was a major backlash after drug maker Mylan raised the cost to $600. “This is not unique,” Grothman said “There are other drugs in which some company buys up the patent to a drug and all of a sudden the price goes through the roof.”
The Republican from West Bend says he avoids taking campaign contributions from drug companies. “I have been on a committee in Washington in which we did have hearings on this. I try right now to publicize the problem and get some of the companies to back off on some of the most egregious examples of over billing.”
