The state Department of Transportation says July marked the deadliest month of the year so far on Wisconsin roads.
According to preliminary figures released by the agency, 60 people were killed in traffic crashes last month. The number is 21 deaths higher than July of last year and six more than the five-year average for the month. Those deaths include 46 motorcycle operators and their passengers, 24 pedestrians, and nine bicyclists.
As of the end of July, 338 people have died in traffic crashes this year. Compared to the same period last year, there have been 48 more traffic-related fatalities in the state.
