Despite his struggles this season, McCutchen single handedly helped his team end a 9-game losing streak at Miller Park, as the Pittsburgh Pirates pulled out a 3-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers in 10-innings.
McCutchen drove in all three runs for the Pirates, driving in the game winner with a single to right in the 10th. He also singled home a run in the third and clubbed his 18th home run of the season in the first inning.
Chad Kuhl dominated Brewer hitters for six innings, but after Chris Carter doubled in the seventh, Kirk Nieuwenhuis clubbed a long home run to right field to tie the game 2-2. It’s the 12th homer of the season for Nieuwenhuis and the 10th at Miller Park.
The Brewers managed just five hits on the night, seeing their 4-game winning streak come to an end.
Wily Peralta pitched five innings, allowing two-runs on five-hits, walking three and striking out five. The loss goes to Carlos Torres in relief. He falls to 2-3.
Matt Garza (4-5) pitches game two of the series for the Brewers tonight. He’ll face Pittsburgh’s Ryan Vogelsong (2-3).
