We may not have the Zika carrying varieties, but mosquitoes remain a concern in Wisconsin. If you don’t like them, covering your exposed skin is the next best thing.
Stephanie Smiley heads the Division of Communicable Diseases in the state Department of Health Services Smiley says as uncomfortable as mosquito bites can be, there’s a bigger problem.
“From a public health perspective, we want to make sure that people are taking precautions to protect themselves against disease,” Smiley said. Those include West Nile virus and its complications. The state is also actively monitoring for the two mosquito species that carry Zika. So far, neither has been detected here.
