The Milwaukee Brewers have announced that they are shutting down starting pitcher Junior Guerra for the rest of the season.
Brewers manager Craig Counsell told reporters before the game that Guerra finished complete healthy. They just got to an innings standpoint and wanted to stop him.
Guerra finishes with a 9-3 record and a 2.81 earned run average in 121 2/3 innings.
Guerra, along with Zach Davies helped the Brewers starting rotation put together a 25-game stretch with a 2.82 earned run average, which is the best in the majors over that stretch.
Brewers call up Reed
With the loss of Keon Broxton (broken wrist) and Kirk Nieuwenhuis (abdominal strain), the Milwaukee Brewers will be adding minor league outfielder Michael Reed to their roster.
Reed hit .248 with eight home runs and 45 runs batted in (121 games) at Colorado Springs this season. He also stole 20 bases.
