A small plane crash in Door County Sunday night has killed two people.
The U.S. Coast Guard says the plane crashed around 8 p.m. near the Ephraim Harbor. It was found about two hours later, near a golf course at Peninsula State Park.
Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Patrick McCarty says a volunteer pilot was returning a teenage flying student to Door County from Green Bay when the Cessna 182 went down. A caller notified authorities after seeing the plane circling and hearing a crash. At least a-half dozen agencies began searching by land and in the water near the park. It was found by a bicyclist on a trail.
McCarty identified the pilot as 69-year-old Ralph Keller of Sister Bay and La Grange Park, Illinois. The passenger was 16-year-old Olivia Dahl, of Sister Bay.
Records indicate the plane left Green Bay earlier in the evening and was flying to the Ephraim-Gibraltar Airport, near where it crashed.
