A school district in northeast Wisconsin is dealing with mold in one of its buildings. According to a press release from the Shawano School District, over the summer the Shawano Community High School developed a humidity issue with its cooling system. This impacted the elective wing of the building and because of the high humidity, mold had developed in some of the classrooms.
Although the mold was not toxic, it was visible. After conducting an air quality test, elevated levels were found, causing the district to hire an outside clearing service to take care of the situation, which will not be completed before the beginning of school on Thursday.
Despite the ongoing cleaning at the school, classes at the Shawano Community High School will take place as scheduled, however some classes may be held in different locations of the school. The school district has sent out a notice to parents notifying them of the situation and wants all of the rooms to be fully cleaned before students can return to their normal classrooms.
