A 48-year-old Milwaukee man has been released from prison, after DNA evidence proved his innocence. Daryl Holloway spent 24 years in prison for a rape and armed burglary that he didn’t commit. He was convicted in Milwaukee in 1993, and a judge sentenced him to 120 years in prison.
The Wisconsin Innocence Project pushed for new tests on the victim’s underwear. The results showed Holloway couldn’t have been the perpetrator.
Holloway called the Innocence Project staff “geniuses” and said that they saw what he was saying. He says they fought for him, and knew he didn’t do it.
Milwaukee County Judge Jeffrey Wagner signed an order Tuesday to overturn Holloway’s conviction, and he walked out the Green Bay Correctional Institution on Wednesday.
