The UW-Whitewater Warhawks pushed their perfect record to 12-0 with a 37-9 win over Wittenberg in the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs at Perkins Stadium on Saturday.
The Warhawks racked up 231 rushing yards, including 146 for freshman Josh Ringelberg. Quarterback Cole Wilber completed 21 of 31 for 237 yards through the air.
Wittenberg scored first, on a 18-yard field goal. The Warhawks scored the next 30 points.
Whitewater’s victory moves them into the quarterfinals this week. The Warhawks will host John Carroll on Saturday. John Carroll is the team that snapped Mount Union’s 112-game regular-season winning streak a few weeks back.
Titans knock off St. John’s
The UW-Oshkosh Titans earned a trip into the NCAA Division III quarterfinals by knocking off St. John’s of Minnesota 31-14 on Saturday at Titan Stadium in Oshkosh.
Early in the fourth quarter, the Titans defense stopped St. John’s on a fourth and one at the Oshkosh 27. Titan Brandon Lloyd stuffed the run up the middle. Two downs later, Oshkosh running back Devon Linzenmeyer raced 72 yards for a touchdown.
Dylan Hecker led the way for the Titans, rushing for a career high 198 yards and three touchdowns, against the second-ranked defends in the country.
Oshkosh (11-1) will face St. Thomas (Minn.) (12-0) this Saturday with the site still to be determined.
