Packers remain perfect

The Green Bay Packers improved to 9-0 on the season with a 45-7 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football at Lambeau Field.  The win also extended the Packers franchise record winning streak to 15-games.

Aaron Rodgers continued his MVP pace tossing for 250-yards and 4-scores.  Rodgers now has over 2800-yards and 28-touchdowns on the season.  Jordy Nelson was Rodger’s favorite target in the game; Nelson caught 5-balls for 63-yards and 2-TDs.  Rodgers talks about Nelson…

Rodgers NFC Player of the Month

Aaron Rodgers

It’s beginning to look like a broken record.  Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Month for October. This is Rodgers’ fourth career Player of the Month Award and third in a row.  He joins Pro Football Hall of Famer Barry Sanders as the only players to be named Offensive Player of the Month in three consecutive month.

Rodgers led the Packers to a 4-0 record and completed 97 of 136 passes (71.3%) for 1,455 yards with 12 touchdowns and two interceptions for an NFL-best 129.4 passer rating.

In all four October games, Rodgers had at least 300 yards passing, two or more touchdowns and a 110+ passer rating.  He has posted a passer rating of at least 110 in every game this year and is the first player in NFL history with a 110+ rating in each of the first seven games to start a season. Rodgers is already drawing mention as the odds on favorite to win the NFL MVP Award.  Rodgers was asked about that yesterday.

Sports Illustrated All-Pro

Earlier, Peter King came out with his Sports Illustrated mid-way All-Pro team.  Aaron Rodgers was the choice as the Player of the Year.  Rodgers was joined on the first team by Packers center Scott Wells and linebacker Clay Matthews.

Packers defense finally shines

For the first four games of the NFL season, the Green Bay Packers were winning games in spite of their defense.  After falling behind 14-0 last night to the Atlanta Falcons, it appeared as if that trend might continue.

That’s when the defense said enough is enough.  After giving up 145 yards to the Falcons on their first two scoring drives, the Packers held the Falcons to 102 yards and no points the rest of the way. [Read more...]

Packers vs. Falcons today

The Green Bay Packers defense promises to get a stiff challenge today from the Atlanta Falcon’s solid receiving corp, but Aaron

Rodgers and the Packers promise to give the Falcon secondary a solid test of their own.  The result could be a good old-fashioned shootout at the Georgia Dome tonight.

The Falcons (2-2) remember the thumping the Packers (4-0) put on them in last years divisional playoffs (48-21) and they’ll likely be looking for payback.

Atlanta couldn’t stop the Packers in that playoff game last January.  In fact, the Packers never had to punt that day.  But instead of trying to improve their defense in the April draft, the Falcons traded away four picks to move up in the draft and pick high-flying Julio Jones.  Jones hasn’t disappointed, but the Falcon’s problems on defense haven’t gone away.

The Falcons best bet will be trying to outscore the Packers.  The way Green Bay’s pass defense (ranked 31st in the NFL) has looked so far this season, they might be able to match the Packers.

Atlanta also has motivation on their side.  The Falcons under QB Matt Ryan are 22-3 at the Georgia Dome (playoffs included).  They don’t lose much at home.  To be embarrassed at home by the Packers will likely have them breathing fire by the time this game rolls around tonight. [Read more...]

Lang to start exhibition against Arizona

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy announced today that T.J. Lang would get the start at left guard in Friday night’s preseason game against Arizona at Lambeau Field.

Lang has some experience as a starter, getting the call in relief of injured players three times in his rookie season.  This time, Lang is battling for the starting job with rookie 1st round draft pick Derek Sherrod and Lang appears to have the upper hand. [Read more...]
