Packers re-sign LB Brad Jones

decided to resign with the Packers, despite receiving significant interest from a number of other NFL teams.

Jones was a big piece of the puzzle for the Packers defense last season after both Desmond Bishop and D.J. Smith were lost to season-ending injuries.  Jones played alongside A.J. Hawk in the Packers base defense and it was Jones that served as the lone linebacker in the dime.  Jones’ final numbers were 77 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 4 pass break-ups in 12-games.

Jones was a 7th round draft pick in the 2009 NFL draft by the Packers out of Colorado.

Packers get roster to mandated 75 players

The Green Bay Packers placed six players on injured reserve, two players on

the physically unable to perform (PUP) list and they released two others to get to the 75-player roster limit today.

The two players released are FB Jon Hoese and DE Jarius Wynn.

The Packers placed ILB Desmond Bishop, RB Du’ane Bennett, TE DeMarco Cosby, DE Johnny Jones, G Ray Dominguez and WR Shaky Smithson on Injured Reserve.

TE Andrew Quarless and OLB Frank Zombo will begin the season on the PUP list.

The Packers will host Kansas City on Thursday night in the final exhibition game, then have to reduce their roster to the final 53-man regular season roster limit by 8pm Friday night.

Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy revealed two injuries following

Thursday nights 27-13 win over Cincinnati.  TE Tom Crabtree suffered a shoulder injury and DE Ryan Pickett a calf injury.  Neither player returned to action in the game.

As it turns out, Crabtree escaped from any serious injury.  McCarthy said he’ll have a chance to make it back for the final preseason game against Kansas City this Thursday night at Lambeau Field. 

McCarthy didn’t offer much information on Ryan Pickett, other than to say he’ll be hard-pressed to make it back for the Chiefs game.

McCarthy also added linebacker Robert Francois to the injury report with a hamstring injury. [Read more...]

A miserable start for the Packers

Watching the Green Bay Packers play their preseason opener last night, if you

didn’t know they went 15-1 last season, you’d never believe it.

The Packers came away from their 21-13 loss to the San Diego Chargers with little to brag about.  They struggled on offense, defense and special teams.

Bishop set to go in full pads tonight

returns to practice at 7pm tonight.

Bishop missed the first week of practice after suffering a calf strain before the start of training camp while working out on his own.

Bishop was able to return to practice on Wednesday but wasn’t eligible for full contact until Friday night.  The Packers coaching staff decided not to throw Bishop out their during the Family Night scrimmage.

Bishop said he won’t ease his way back into things, he’s ready to go.  He’s also anxiously awaiting the teams first preseason game, Thursday night in San Diego.  He said the preseason is a good guage for players to see where they are and where they need to get to.

Bishop missed three games last season with calf injuries and still had 115 tackles and 5 sacks in 13 starts.
