Packers look to slow down Newton (AUDIO)

for 422 yards in his NFL debut.  Newton will likely find life much more difficult against the defending Super bowl champs this week.

The Packers travel to Carolina on Sunday for their first road trip of the season.

Packers backups have tonight when the Packers close out the preseason at Kansas City against the Chiefs.

The Packers defense started slow last season, but came on strong in the end and finishing with the #1 run defense in the NFL.  How will they stack up this season?

The Packers have had a rash of training camp injuries and cornerback Al Harris and safety Atari Bigby will start the season on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.  There’s a chance that rookie Sam Shields may have to start the season as the teams nickelback.

I talked this week with Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers about the Packers defense in 2010.

The Green Bay Packers have made a position change on the defensive line.  Ryan Pickett and B.J. Raji have switched positions.  Raji is now the starting nose tackle and Pickett is the left defensive end. 

Defensive Coordinator Dom Capers was asked if he’s getting players ready for the possibility of not having Johnny Jolly.

Packers will go 11-5 and win NFC North

Dom CapersAfter a 6-10 season in 2008, the Green Bay Packers immediately went to work in the off-season.  They canned their strength and conditioning program to start, getting a fresh change with new strength and conditioning coordinator Dave Redding.  It’s early, but Redding’s program seems to have made a big impact.

The Packers hired a new defensive coordinator in Dom Capers (pictured) and he’s surrounded by a number of new defensive coaches, including former Steelers and Panthers great Kevin Greene and former Carolina defensive coordinator Mike Trgovac, once a defensive assistant with the Packers.

The Packers special teams units were a mess last season and Shawn Slocum has taken over as the teams Special Teams Coordinator to fix that problem.

Throw in a couple of changes on the offensive line and a brand new attitude preaching physical toughness and the Packers are ready to open the season against the Chicago Bears on Sunday night.  [Read more...]
