Geoffrion could be the first Badger to win Hobey Baker

Blake GeoffrionThe next time a Wisconsin Badger hockey player wins the Hobey Baker Award, it’ll be the first. 

Wisconsin senior forward Blake Geoffrion was among the three finalists for the 2010 Hobey Baker Award, honoring college hockey’s top player.  Geoffrion said it’s hard to believe hat no Badger has ever won the award.

UW defenseman Brendan Smith was one of 10 finalists for the award, but he didn’t stay on the list that was reduced to 3. 

The other finalists are: Bobby Butler, a senior forward from New Hampshire and Gustav Nyquist, a sophomore forward from Maine.

The 2010 Hobey Baker Award winner will be announced on April 9th at the Frozen Four at Ford Field in Detroit.

Wisconsin’s Geoffrion is part of Hobey Baker “hat trick”

Blake GeoffrionWisconsin Badger senior forward Blake Geoffrion has been named as part of the “Hobey Hat Trick” of three finalists for the 2010 Hobey Baker Memorial Award, which goes to the top player in college hockey.

Other finalists for the award are New Hampshire senior forward Bobby Butler and Maine sophomore forward Gustav Nyquist.

The winner will be announced Friday, April 9th during the Frozen Four festivities.

Badgers advance to 11th Frozen Four

John Mitchell scored a pair of goals to lead the Wisconsin Badger Hockey team to a 5-3 win over St. Cloud State in the West Regional Final in St. Paul, Minnesota on Saturday night.

The Badgers (27-10-4) will face East Regional Champion Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in the national semifinals on April 8 at Ford Field in Detroit.

Mitchell, Blake Geoffrion and Jake Gardner scored first period goals for the Badgers.  Aaron Bendickson also scored for Wisconsin and Scott Gudmandson made 26 saves for the Badgers, who are making their first Frozen Four appearance since winning the 2006 title at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee.  [Read more...]

Badgers move step closer to Frozen Four

Blake GeoffrionSenior forward Blake Geoffrion scored the game-winning power play goal with 44 seconds left in the second period as the Wisconsin Badger men’s hockey team knocked off Vermont 3-2 in the first round of the NCAAMen’s Ice Hockey West Regional at the Xcel Energy Center on Friday night.

The top-seeded Badgers (26-10-4) advance to face No. 2-seed St. Cloud State in Saturday’s West Regional final with a trip to the 2010 Frozen Four on the line.  Wisconsin continues its pursuit of a seventh NCAA championship and looks to make its first Frozen Four appearance since winning the NCAA title in 2006. St. Norbert College moves into NCAA hockey quarterfinals

The St. Norbert College men’s hockey team moved into the NCAA Division 3 quarterfinals, beating Adrian College 4-3 on Wednesday night. 

The Green Knights entered as the top seed in the West Region and will now face Gustavus Adolphus in Saturday’s quarterfinals. 

St. Norbert College is vying for their 6th appearance in the NCAA Division 3 Frozen Four, held this year at the Olympic Arena in Lake Placid, NY.  The last time the Knights made the Frozen Four field was 2008 when they won their first ever hockey championship.
