Green Bay women continue to roll

The 12th ranked (A.P.) Green Bay Phoenix women’s team (18-0, 8-0 HL) held Butler to 19% shooting from the field and rolled to a 60-36 win in women’s Horizon League action in Indianapolis.

The win was Green Bay’s 32nd straight over the Bulldogs and 38th straight regular season win.

Julie Wojta moved into the top 10 on Green Bay’s all-time scoring list with her game high 15 points. 

The Phoenix held the Bulldogs to a season low 3 field goals and forced a Butler season high 30 turnovers.

Green Bay wraps up their road trip on Saturday with a game at Valparaiso.

GB & Milwaukee fall in Horizon League play

In Youngstown, Ohio, Youngstown State had four players in double figures and rolled past Green Bay 77-47 in Horizon League action. 

Blake Allen had 16 points for the Penguins, which snapped a 5-game losing streak.  Alec Brown scored 10 points to lead Green Bay in defeat.

In Milwaukee, Cleveland State cruised past the UWM Panthers 83-57.  The Vikings shot 69% from the field in the second half while the Panthers countered with a miserable 27% effort.  James Haarsma had 15 to lead for the Panthers in defeat.

Horizon League men’s results

In the Horizon League last night, Ray McCallum Jr. scored 16 points to lead Detroit to a 80-73 win over the Green Bay Phoenix at the Resch Center.

Alec Brown had 17 points and 9 rebounds in the loss for the Phoenix, who fell to 2-4 in league play.

In Milwaukee, Tony Meier scored 16 points to lead the Panthers to a 58-38 win over Wright State.

Green Bay’s Wojta is HL Player of the Week

For the second time this season, Green Bay senior Julie Wojta (Francis Creek, Wis.) has been named Horizon League Player of the Week.

Green Bay opened Horizon League play Dec. 29 with an 80-63 win over UIC before closing 2011 with a 76-49 win over Loyola on Dec. 31.  Wojta averaged 14.5 points and 11.5 rebounds in the pair of wins.

This is the third time in her career that Wojta has received Player of the Week honors.

Green Bay’s Turner done for the season

The Green Bay men’s basketball program lost sophomore Daniel Turner for the rest of the 2011-12 season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in Saturday’s game at Valparaiso. 

Turner had started 9 of 14 games this season and 35 games in his tw0-year career.  Turner was averaging 4.6 points and 4.9 rebounds a game this season.  Turner is expected to make a full recovery and be ready in time for the start of next season.

Green Bay (6-8, 2-2 Horizon League) returns to action on Saturday, playing at Milwaukee (10-5, 3-1 HL).
