More pre-draft workouts for the Bucks today

The Milwaukee Bucks will work out six more players at the team’s training center today in St. Francis.

Among the six are a pair of former Wisconsin Badgers, Jared Berggren and Mike Brusewitz.  UW-Milwaukee’s Paris Gulley is also in the mix today.

The other three players working out for the Bucks are Kevin Foster of Santa Clara, A.J. Matthews of Farmingdale State and Andre Roberson of Colorado.

The NBA Draft is June 27th.  The Bucks currently  have the 15th pick (rd. 1) and the 43rd selection (rd. 2) in the draft.

Badgers shoot their way out of the NCAA Tournament

It’s happened before, where the Wisconsin Badgers couldn’t throw the ball in the lake if they were standing right next to it.  They simply picked

the worst time of the year to do it again.

The Badgers, who made the Sweet 16 in each of the last two seasons, were knocked out of the 2013 tournament in the opening round, falling to Mississippi 57-46.

Many thought the Badgers had a favorable bracket and were headed for a deep run in the NCAA’s post-season, but the Rebels had other ideas.  Bo Ryan’s Badgers lost in their first tournament game for just the second time in his 12-seasons as head coach at Wisconsin.

Marshall Henderson scored 19 points and Murphy Holloway added 10 for Ole Miss.

Freshman Sam Dekker scored 14 points for Wisconsin, which hit just 8 of their 36 three-pointers (22.2%) and 15 of 59 shots overall (25.4%).

The Badgers got plenty of open looks, but they just couldn’t convert.  Wisconsin led 25-22 at halftime, but they were uncharacteristically sloppy with the ball.  Their 9-turnovers in the half matched their average for a game. [Read more...]

Badgers look to slow down Ole Miss

The Wisconsin Badgers open play in the NCAA Tournament later this morning

(11:40am CT) against the Rebels of Mississippi in Kansas City.

The Badgers will try to slow down a team that averages almost 80-points a game.  The key to the Rebels success is flamboyant guard Marshall Henderson who led the SEC in scoring at more than 20-points a game.  He’s also 3rd in the nation in three pointers made with 131.

Henderson has made 35.7% of his three-pointers and he likes to shoot them.  Of his 507 shots attempted, 367 of them have come from beyond the arc.  He’s also a weapon at the free throw line, shooting 88% from the stripe.

Henderson certainly is the centerpiece for the Rebels, both with his play and his antics.

The Badgers should be able to get the ball inside for some easy baskets.  If they do, there’s a good chance the Rebels may get into some foul trouble. [Read more...]

Ryan named Big Ten Coach of the Year

The Wisconsin Badgers at the beginning of the season were picked to finish in the

bottom half of the Big Ten.  Fast forward to the end of the Big Ten regular season and not only were those predictions a bit off. Wisconsin’s Bo Ryan has been voted the Big Ten’s Coach of the Year for the 3rd time since taking over at Wisconsin.

The only coaches in league history to win Coach of the Year honors more than Bo Ryan are Purdue’s Gene Keady (seven) and Indiana’s Bob Knight (five).

Ryan’s Badgers have put together 12-straight top-4 finishes in the Big Ten.

Senior Jared Berggren was selected 2nd team All-Big Ten by the coaches and media, as well as an All-Big Ten defensive team honoree.

Ben Brust and Sam Dekker were each honorable mention selections and Dekker was named to the Big Ten’s All-Freshman team.

Badgers suffer “Senior Day” loss to Purdue

The Wisconsin Badgers started out strong but it looked like they changed uniforms at halftime.  Coming out of the halftime break, it was Purdue that out-hustled and out-played Wisconsin on their own home floor and pulled out a 69-56 win over the Badgers.

The loss all but eliminated the Badgers from Big Ten title contention.  They’re in a 4-way tie for second place in the Big Ten with Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State.  They’re all 2-games behind front-running Indiana with 2-games left to play.  The Hoosiers, with their win on Saturday, locked up at least a share of the Big Ten regular season title.

attempts.  He’s hitting just 18% from distance on the season.  The Badgers, after making 6 of their first 10 from beyond the arc, missed their final 18 attempts.

Wisconsin jumped out to a 32-19 lead and it looked like it was going to be another one of those Kohl Center beat downs.  Wisconsin shot 50% from the field in the first half, then cooled off considerably, hitting just 29.6% from the field in the second half.
