Brewers throttled by Cards on opening day

The St. Louis Cardinals party was missing Albert Pujols and Tony LaRussa, but the Cardinals still spoiled the Milwaukee Brewers home

opener.  The Cardinals clubbed four home runs off of Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo on the way to a 11-5 win over Milwaukee at Miller Park.

The Brewers jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but Gallardo couldn’t hold it, quickly surrendering the lead before being chased in the fourth.

Gallardo is now 0-3 in opening day assignments.  Against the Cardinals, Gallardo is 1-8 with a 6.17 ERA in 12 career regular-season starts.

David Freese, Yadier Molina, Carlos Beltran and Matt Holliday all homered off of Gallardo, who lasted only 3 2/3 innings, giving up seven hits and six runs with five walks and three strikeouts. [Read more...]

Brewers inch closer to full squad workouts this weekend

Catcher Jonathan Lucroy and left-hander Zach Braddock signed contracts for 2012, leaving just three players without deals for 2012 on the Milwaukee Brewers 40-man roster.  Pitchers John Axford, Chris Narveson and Michael Fiers remain without deals.

The Brewers first full squad workout is set for this weekend.  They open exhibition play on March 4th against the San Francisco Giants at Maryvale.

Braun is Brewers MVP

The Milwaukee Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America made

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun a unanimous pick as the Brewers Most Valuable Player in 2011. 

The National League MVP Award, voted on by the Baseball Writers, will be unveiled  on November 22nd.  Braun is considered one of the league candidates there too.

Brewers closer John Axford was named the Brewers’ Most Valuable Pitcher, tying for the National League lead with 46 saves.  He had a string of 43 in a row to close the regular season. 

Outfielder Nyjer Morgan is the newcomer of the year.  Catcher Jonathan Lucroy is the Brewers’ Unsung Hero and Latroy Hawkins earned the Good Guy Award.

Brewers 1-win away from NLCS

The Milwaukee Brewers exploded for 5-runs in the 6th inning and beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-4 at Miller Park on Sunday.  The Brewers take a 2-0 lead in the series, which now shifts to Phoenix for game 3 of the best-of-5 series Tuesday night. [Read more...]

Brewers bang out 17 hits in win over Pirates

The Milwaukee Brewers got their offense rolling early, scoring 7 runs in the

second inning and going on to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 11-4 at P-N-C Park in Pittsburgh.

Casey McGehee capped off the 2nd inning outburst with his 10th home run of the season. 

Former Pirate Nyjer Morgan had 4 hits, 2 runs and 2 rbi’s and catcher Jonathan Lucroy added 3-hits to support pitcher Marco Estrada.  Estrada held the Pirates to 2-runs through 7 innings as he beat Pittsburgh for the 2nd time in 11 days.

The Brewers have taken 2 of 3 in the series and shoot for the series win later this morning (11:35am start) in the finale.
