Brewers decline to offer deals to Coffey and Inglett

The Milwaukee Brewers declined to offer contracts to reliever Todd Coffey and utility-man Joe Inglett for the upcoming season.  Both players become free agents immediately.

Coffey went 2-4 last season with a 4.76 ERA.  Inglett hit .254 in 102 games for the Brewers last season.

The Brewers will have six players eligible for arbitration; Prince Fielder, Rickie Weeks, Carlos Gomez, Manny Parra, Carlos Villanueva and Kameron Loe.

Parra struggles, Brewers win streak ends

dropping the series finale to the San Diego Padres 7-3.  All 7-runs were charged to starting and losing pitcher Manny Parra, who hasn’t had a quality start in a month.  Yesterday, Parra said he couldn’t locate his fastball.

Adrian Gonzalez and Chase Headley homered for the homer Padres, who increased their lead in the NL West to 6-games over the San Francisco Giants. 

The Brewers lacked clutch hitting, leaving several runners stranded with two outs.   The Brewers will take the day off today and open a 3-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night.

Brewers blow early lead, fall to Astros

The Milwaukee Brewers  jumped out to a 4-run lead after just two innings, but the Houston Astros came from behind to pull out a 9-5 win at Miller Park on Monday night. 

Pedro Feliz’s RBI double gave the Astros the lead in the 7th to cap off the comeback. [Read more...]

Brewers miss opportunities, fall to Marlins

The Milwaukee Brewers stranded 12 base runners last night, falling to the Florida Marlins 3-2 in Miami, dropping 3 of 4 in the series.

Josh Johnson extended his streak of innings without allowing an earned run to 31 before finally allowing one in the 7th inning. 

The loss spoiled the return of lefty Chris Capuano to the mound.  Capuano was making his first start since September of 2007 after a second Tommy John surgery.  Capuano went 3 2/3 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits and he’s glad it’s over. [Read more...]

Capuano to get start on Thursday

Chris Capuano will make his first start for the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday since September of 2007.  Capuano had a second Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery in May 2008 and has been on the mend every since.

Capuano made 7-starts in the minors, between Class A and Class AAA.  He was 3-1 with a 1.59 ERA, with four walks and 33 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings.

Capuano will take Manny Parra’s spot in the starting rotation.  He had his contract purchased by the Brewers on Friday night. [Read more...]
