Bucks clinging to life with NBA season winding down

The Milwaukee Bucks barely have a playoff pulse as they host the Toronto Raptors  tonight at the Bradley Center.

The Bucks need to win all three of their remaining games and need Philadelphia to lose all three of their remaining games for a shot at the Eastern Conference playoffs.

That means Philadelphia’s magic number is down to 1.  Any 76er win or Bucks defeat and they’ll lock down the 8th spot in the East and the Bucks will move into the NBA Draft lottery.

The Bucks beat New Jersey 106-95 on Saturday at home to stay alive..

Bucks are all but eliminated

Philadelphia’s magic number to clinch the 8th and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference is down to 2.  Any combination of 76er’s wins or Milwaukee Bucks losses totaling 2 would give the 76er’s the final playoff spot.

The Bucks fell apart in the second half last night, falling to Indiana 118-109.  It’s the 7th straight win for the Pacers and it earned them home court advantage in the 1st round of the NBA playoffs.

The Bucks on the other hand, have picked the wrong time to go cold.  They lost for the 5th time in the last 6 games.

Danny Granger had 29 points and David West added 21 points and 14 rebounds in the win.  The Pacers swept the season series from the Bucks.

Brandon Jennings had 27 points in the loss.  The Bucks are off today.  They’ll host New Jersey on Saturday night at the Bradley Center.

Bucks playoff chances diminishing

The Milwaukee Bucks playoff hopes took a major hit last night when they fell to the Washington Wizards 121-112.

Jordan Crawford tied a season-high with 32 points for the Wizards.  Monta Ellis had 31 points in the loss for the Bucks.

Philadelphia won it’s game, 103-87 over Cleveland, which means the 76ers moved 2 1/2 games in front of the Bucks for the 8th and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.  Both teams have 5-games left in the regular season.  The Bucks are at Indiana to face the Pacers tonight.

The Bucks played without forward Larry Sanders, still feeling the effects of a stomach flu.

112 points should be enough to win games in the NBA, but the Wizards shot 56% from the field against a hapless Bucks defense and outscored them in the end.

Milwaukee Bucks playoff picture

With six games remaining, the Milwaukee Bucks are still in the mix for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.  The bucks (29-31) sit just 2-games behind both #8 Philadelphia (31-29) and #7 New York (31-29) in the race for the final playoff spot.

All three teams have six games remaining.  The Bucks have 3 home and 3 away, the 76ers have 1 at home and 5 on the road and the Knicks have 2 at home and 4 on the road.

The Bucks have 3 games against teams above .500 and 3 against teams below .500.  The 76ers have 2 games against teams above .500 and 4 games against teams below .500.  The Knicks, like the Bucks have 3 games against teams above .500 and 3 below.

Following is the remaining schedule for the three teams:

BUCKS:  4/18 at Washington; 4/19 at Indiana; 4/21 vs. New Jersey; 4/23 vs. Toronto; 4/25 vs. Philadelphia; 4/26 at Boston

76ers:  4/17 vs. Indiana; 4/18 at Cleveland; 4/21 at Indiana; 4/23 at New Jersey, 4/25 at Milwaukee; 4/26 at Detroit

NY Knicks:  4/17 vs. Boston; 4/18 at New Jersey; 4/20 at Cleveland; 4/22 at Atlanta; 4/25 vs. L.A. Clippers; 4/26 vs. Charlotte

Bucks are running out of time

The Milwaukee Bucks still trail the New York Knicks by 2-games in the Eastern Conference playoff chase, but time is running out.  The Bucks have just 6-games left to try to catch the Knicks.

The Bucks fell to the Indiana Pacers at home on Saturday night.  They’ll play at Washington on Wednesday night, then get another shot at the Pacers on Thursday, this time on the road.

The Bucks had fallen 2 1/2 games behind New York after Saturday’s loss to Indiana, but the Knicks did the Bucks a favor yesterday by falling to Miami 93-85 on Sunday.

The Bucks free throw shooting has been a killer.  They finished 16 of 26, while the Pacers hit 24 of 26.  The Bucks also had no answer for Packers big man Roy Hibbert.  The 7’2 all-star center finished with 23 points and 14 rebounds.

Part of the problem is the Bucks inability to defend opponents, especially in the 1st half at home.  In the last three home games (all losses), the Bucks have allowed 61, 62 and 59 points in the first half.

Those poor starts have caused the Bucks to expend a lot of energy just to get back into the games.

Of the Bucks final six games, three are at home and three on the road.  The odds appear to be stacked against them.
