Braun, Fielder win Silver Slugger awards

Milwaukee Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun and first baseman Prince Fielder each earned Silver Slugger awards on Wednesday. The award is presented to the top offensive player at each position in both leagues.  It’s the fourth straight Silver Slugger award for Braun, which is a franchise record.  Fielder won his second Silver Slugger award.  The first came back in 2007.

Braun hit .332 with 33 home runs and 111 runs batted in this season.  He led the NL with a .597 slugging percentage and finished in the top six in the NL in 11 different offensive categories. Fielder hit .299 with 38 homers and 120 rbi’s this past season.  His 38 homers ranked second in the National League.

Brewers erupt, leave Cardinals in their dust

The Milwaukee Brewers fell behind 5-2 yesterday and Cardinals lefty Jaime Garcia looked like he was cruising along.  Then came the home half of the 5th inning.

The Brewers erupted for 6-runs in the 5th inning, including a pair of two run homers from Prince Fielder and Yuniesky Betancourt to jump in front 8-5 and go on to a 9-6 victory in the National League Championship Series opener. [Read more...]

Fielder now has 38 home runs for the season, tying him with Matt Kemp of the Los Angeles Dodgers for the NL lead.  His 120 runs batted in left him three shy of tying Kemp for the NL lead.

Rickie Weeks also clubbed his 20th homer in the win.  His 470 foot shot kept the Brewers 1-game in front of the Arizona Diamondbacks for the #2 seed in the National League Playoffs.  The Brewers still need to win tonight, or get Arizona to lose its final game, to assure the Brewers lock up the #2 seed. The Brewers aren’t playing like division leaders

To say you’re worried would be admitting that there’s a problem.  So the Milwaukee Brewers are all pretending to not be worried about the team’s recent slide, a slide that has seen them drop 6 of their last 8 and see their lead in the NL Central fall to 5 1/2 games over the St. Louis Cardinals.

With 12-games left, the Brewers magic number to clinch the NL Central remains at 8 after a 6-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies at Miller Park on Wednesday night. [Read more...]

Brewers count it down (AUDIO)

The Milwaukee Brewers were far from perfect on Tuesday night, but after losing some tight games in the series with Philadelphia over the weekend, they found a way to pull out a 2-1 walk off win over the Colorado Rockies at Miller Park.

Starting pitcher Zach Greinke may have said it best after the game.  He said the Brewers lost some games last week that they could have won, so it’s only fair that they win one that they perhaps didn’t deserve. [Read more...]
