Badgers shoot their way out of the NCAA Tournament

It’s happened before, where the Wisconsin Badgers couldn’t throw the ball in the lake if they were standing right next to it.  They simply picked

the worst time of the year to do it again.

The Badgers, who made the Sweet 16 in each of the last two seasons, were knocked out of the 2013 tournament in the opening round, falling to Mississippi 57-46.

Many thought the Badgers had a favorable bracket and were headed for a deep run in the NCAA’s post-season, but the Rebels had other ideas.  Bo Ryan’s Badgers lost in their first tournament game for just the second time in his 12-seasons as head coach at Wisconsin.

Marshall Henderson scored 19 points and Murphy Holloway added 10 for Ole Miss.

Freshman Sam Dekker scored 14 points for Wisconsin, which hit just 8 of their 36 three-pointers (22.2%) and 15 of 59 shots overall (25.4%).

The Badgers got plenty of open looks, but they just couldn’t convert.  Wisconsin led 25-22 at halftime, but they were uncharacteristically sloppy with the ball.  Their 9-turnovers in the half matched their average for a game. [Read more...]

46 Big Ten victory over the Nebraska Cornhuskers at the Kohl Center on Tuesday night.

Freshman Sam Dekker tied a career-high with 19 points to go along with 4-assists in 22-minutes.  He finished 5 of 6 from the field and 4 of 5 from 3-point range.

Ryan Evans added 14 points, including 2 of 2 from the free throw line.  Evans practiced jump shot free throws for the last week and last night used that method in the game.

The free throw struggles have a season-long deal.  After shooting 81% from the line last season, Evans entered the game just over 40%.  But one thing Evans hasn’t done, is let his free throw woes affect the rest of his game. [Read more...]

Watching Wisconsin Badger forward Ryan Evans shoot free throws this season, it’s

hard to believe he was an 81% shooter from the charity stripe last season.

Evans is hitting just 40.5% from the line on the season (51 of 126), a 40% difference from a year ago.

The Badgers have been able to get by with Evans in the lineup late in games without having his free throw difficulties kill them, but it’s been a little shaky at times.

Evans has banked free throws (made & missed), and he’s failed to hit the rim 4 times. [Read more...]

Badgers OT run ends against Gophers

After a pair of thrilling overtime wins against Iowa and Michigan last week, the thirdJared Berggren time would not be a charm for the Wisconsin Badgers in Minnesota.

The Badgers managed just 6-points in the final 11-minutes of action last night and fell to the Gophers 58-53 in overtime.

Wisconsin’s Jared Berggren knows the Badgers had their chances and he’s hoping this one doesn’t catch up with them down the road.

The Badgers have 6-games left in the Big Ten.  Had they won last night’s game, their Big Ten title hopes were realistic.  Now they’re 2-games back and their prospects aren’t nearly as good. [Read more...]

up and beat Illinois 74-68 in Champaign.

Ben Brust scored 20 points, Frank Kaminsky added 19 and Ryan Evans 15 to keep the Badgers in 5th place in the Big Ten at 6-3.

The Illini have lost 7 of 9 and dropped to 10th place in the Big Ten.

The Badgers (15-7, 6-3 Big Ten) shot under 30 percent for most of the first half and combined with the Illini to score 14 points in the game’s first eight minutes.

The Badgers eventually started to make baskets and the Illini didn’t, at least until it was too late.

Joseph Bertrand’s 17 points led the Illini.

The Badgers didn’t attempt a single free throw in the last game against Ohio State.  Yesterday, they attempted 42 and made 28, both are season highs.
