Choi captures U.S. Women’s Open

lead dipped to 2-strokes after a triple-bogey on the 10th hole.  But Choi recovered and went on to win the 67th U.S. Women’s Open, by 4-shots over fellow South Korean Amy Yang.

Choi shot a 1-over-par 73 and finished at 7-under 281 for the tournament.  It was Choi’s first major and sixth career LPGA victory.  She earned $585,000 for the victory.

Choi and Yang were the only two golfers to finish under par over 4-rounds of golf at Blackwolf Run. 

Choi became the 4th Korean golfer to win the U.S. Women’s Open in the last five years. 

Paula Creamer was the top American finisher.  She tied for 7th.

 

Round 2 of the US Women’s Open begins Friday Morning

A trio of Americans sit on top of the leaderboard after the opening round of the 67th US Women’s Open from Black Wolf Run in Kohler.  Cristie Kerr, Brittany Lincicome, and Lizette Salas all fought the heat to fire 3-under par, 69s on Thursday.  In all, 14-golfers found red numbers on day 1.

For Kerr and Lincicome, the top of the field is a familiar spot in Major Tournaments.  Kerr has won a pair of Majors in her career; the 2007 U.S Open and the 2010 LPGA Championship.  Lincicome won the 2009 Craft Nabisco Championship for her lone Major title.  Salas is a rookie on tour who is ranked #206 in the world.  Her highest finish in any event is a tie for 22nd earlier this year at the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup.  One thing all three have in common is they teed off in the afternoon Thursday.  Kerr says they may have caught a little break in the weather then…

2012 US Women’s Open begins today at Blackwolf Run

The 67th US Open heads back to Blackwolf Run, the site of the 1998 US Women’s open.  The four-day tournament begins Thursday in Kohler, WI.

The buzz about Blackwolf Run this week has been about how tough the course is.  In 1998, Se Ri Pak won in a playoff after posting a 4-day total of 6-over par.  Christie Kerr is one of the hold-overs from last time around and she recalls just how tough the course was…
