Greinke leads Brewers to another home win

When Zach Greinke takes the mound at Miller Park, a victory for the

Zach Greinke

Milwaukee Brewers is a sure thing.

The Brewers knocked off the Dodgers 3-2 in 10-innings last night.  The Brewers have captured the first two games in the series to cool off the Dodgers.

Greinke wasn’t around for the decision.  The win went to Kameron Loe out of the bullpen.  But Greinke pitched 7-solid innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, striking out 7 and walking only 2.

How good has Greinke been at home for the Brewers?  Since coming to Milwaukee, the Brewers are now 17-0 when Greinke starts a game at Miller Park. [Read more...]

Greinke falls apart in series finale

The Milwaukee Brewers missed out on a chance to sweep Chicago when they fell to the Cubs 8-0 on Thursday.

Zach Greinke retired the first 6-batters he faced, then he fell apart.  When the dust settled, Greinke worked just 3 2/3 innings, surrendered 9-hits and all 8-runs were earned.   Certainly not what anyone expected after Greinke cruised in his first start against the St. Louis Cardinals last weekend.

Chicago’s Matt Garza on the other hand was nearly perfect.  He allowed just 3-hits in 8 2/3 innings to earn his first win of the season.  He missed the chance at a perfect game in the 9th when he fielded a 2-out come-backer and promptly delivered it into the stands on the fly.

Garza allowed a single to Nyjer Morgan  two battles into the game, then held the Cubs without a hit until Morgan added another single with 1-out in the sixth.  Jonathan Lucroy’s single to right in the 8th inning was the only other Brewers hit.

The Brewers are in Atlanta tonight for the first of a 3-game series against the Braves.  Randy Wolf (0-1, 5.40 ERA) faces Jair Jurrjens (0-1, 6.23 ERA) of the Braves.

Brewers play two today

The Milwaukee Brewers knocked off the Chicago White Sox 13-7 in Cactus League play on Monday.

Brooks Conrad homered in the win, but starter Zach Greinke struggled in his final spring tuneup, allowing 6-runs over 3-innings.

The Brewers will play a pair of split-squad games today against Arizona and Chicago (Cubs).  Kyle Heckathorn and Randy Wolf will get starts for the Brewers.

The Brewers will open the regular season on Friday afternoon at Miller Park against the division rival St. Louis Cardinals.

Brewers strength is becoming a weakness

Without the Milwaukee Brewers starting pitching staff, they most likely wouldn’t have been in the post-season playoffs to begin with.  Now that they’re there, the strength is becoming a weakness.

The playoff pitching slide continued on Monday night when Shaun Marcum was knocked around the park by the Cardinals until he departed after four innings.  Albert Pujols had 4-hits, including a 2-run homer.  Pujols drove in 5-runs in the Cardinals 12-3 victory in game 2 of their series at Miller Park. Brewers erupt, leave Cardinals in their dust

The Milwaukee Brewers fell behind 5-2 yesterday and Cardinals lefty Jaime Garcia looked like he was cruising along.  Then came the home half of the 5th inning.

The Brewers erupted for 6-runs in the 5th inning, including a pair of two run homers from Prince Fielder and Yuniesky Betancourt to jump in front 8-5 and go on to a 9-6 victory in the National League Championship Series opener. [Read more...]
