June 29, 2006 By WRN Contributor

Nine home series at the Kohl Center, including four in the first five weeks of the season, highlight the 2006-07 schedule for the defending NCAA and WCHA champion Wisconsin women's hockey team. The Badgers will open their eighth season of women's hockey with the annual Cardinal/White scrimmage on Sept. 23 at the Kohl Center. The Badgers will officially begin defense of its first national title when Quinnipiac comes to the Kohl Center Sept. 29-30. Wisconsin starts conference play the following weekend as St. Cloud State comes to Madison Oct. 6-7. The Badgers will go on the road for the first time to take on Ohio State Oct. 13-14. The lady Badgers finished the year last season with a record of 36-4-1 en route to the program's first national championship. The team tied an NCAA record for most wins in a season with 36 and allowed the third fewest goals per game (1.24) in NCAA history. Heading into the 2006-07 season, Wisconsin has won 12 straight games, matching the longest winning streak in program history.
