Brewers Trade Lee

July 28, 2006 By WRN Contributor

The Brewers pulled the trigger on a six player deal today by sending All-Star Carlos Lee and minor league prospect Nelson Cruz to the Texas Rangers in exchange for outfielders Kevin Mench and Laynce Nix, and reliever Francisco Cordero and a minor league pitcher. Doug Melvin says that the Brewers made Lee a competitive offer on Thursday night which he refused. (Fox Sports says the offer was a 4-year, $48 million dollar extension). Mench is currently hitting .284 with 12 homers and 50 RBI this season. Cordero was an All-Star in 2004, and struggled early this season in the closer role for the Rangers. He's currently 7-4 with a 4.81 ERA. Nix played 9 games for the Rangers this year, hitting .094 before getting sent down to the minors.
