Brewers fading fast

August 14, 2006 By WRN Contributor

It's another case of wait until next year for Milwaukee Brewers fans.  If they can't beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Brewers certainly can't consider themselves even a dark horse in the National League Wild Card race.

The Brewers haven't been able to win much on the road this season and head into tonight's game, they haven't been able to beat the Pirates at PNC Park at all this season.  Milwaukee is now 0-5 at PNC Park this season and according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel , is 15-35 against the Pirates at PNC Park since the park opened in 2001.

I know manager Ned Yost is loyal to his players, but putting up with his teams lackluster effort night in and night out on the road is ridiculous.  His team does lack enthusiasm.  Not including last season, when the Brewers finished .500 and truly performed with maximum effort down the stretch.  But this season, the team is just going through the motions and if Yost can't see that, then he has blinders on.

I'm really getting tired of players not playing with close to the same enthusiasm they showed earlier in the season.  I know this team can't make the playoffs, but how about trying to at least get back to the .500 mark again this season.  I know the team has suffered injuries and at times their pitching staff was a real patchwork unit, but this baseball team should be playing at least .500 baseball and right now they're reeling in the opposite direction.  A little extra effort might be enough to get the team pointed back in the right direction.
