Bucher calls for ethics reform in state government

August 29, 2006 By WRN Contributor

A Republican candidate for Wisconsin Attorney General hopes to give new life to ethics reform legislation. Republican Attorney General candidate Paul Bucher is joining forces with State Senator Mike Ellis, to help breathe new life into Senate Bill One. Bucher says the office needs to take a proactive approach to bringing integrity back to state government. Proposed changes to the bill would increase the Attorney General's role in going after ethics violations, while still creating an independent Government Accountability Board. Senator Ellis (R-Neenah) believes Bucher's support will give the failed proposal the support it needs to pass in the next legislative session. Brian Fraley, a spokesman for Bucher's Republican primary opponent JB Van Hollen, says the proposal is similar to one they made earlier this year. Bucher is also proposing the creation of a Government Fraud and Corruption Bureau within the Department of Justice.
