Lower prices at the pump could boost holiday travel

August 29, 2006 By WRN Contributor

The price at the pump has been dropping, and Pam Moen with AAA Wisconsin says the timing is perfect with the Labor Day holiday approaching. She says that may convince many people who were hesitating about taking a trip. The statewide average is currently hanging around $2.95 for a gallon of regular unleaded. Moen says stabilizing world events have helped to drop prices back below the $3.00 mark in recent weeks. That should be a relief to most people, considering months of record high prices for consumers. Barring any other disasters, Moen says prices should continue to improve after the holiday is over. An estimated 35 million Americans are expected to travel somewhere this weekend.
