McCarthy sends a message

August 25, 2006 By WRN Contributor

Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy delivered a message to running back Najeh Davenport yesterday and he did it through the media. McCarthy said in not so many words that Davenport needs to get on the field or his roster spot could be in jeopardy. Davenport missed his second straight day of practice after dropping out of Tuesday night's workout with a strained hip flexor. When asked whether Davenport will play Monday night against the Bengals, McCarthy said he can't control player injuries, but Davenport is competing for a roster spot and needs to get out and play and make the team like anyone else. Davenport said he'll be back on the practice field today.
