Steinhauer captures 2006 British Women's Open

August 7, 2006 By WRN Contributor

43 year old Madison native Sherri Steinhauer shot an even par 72 yesterday to win the women's British Open for the 3rd time and first since the tournament became a major in 2001. Steinhauer finished at 7-under for her second major title. She finished 3-strokes in front of Christie Kerr and 2000 champion Sophie Gustafson. Steinhauer played mostly mistake free golf on the weekend, going 48 holes without a bogey at one point. The British Open title is Steinhauer's second major victory.
