For the second straight year, the University of Wisconsin football team has placed one of its players on the Butkus Award Watch List, as the Downtown Athletic Club of Orlando announced that senior Mark Zalewski was one of the 65 candidates. The award is given annually to the nation's best collegiate linebacker. Zalewski, a two-time team captain, enters the 2006 season rated as the 11th best inside linebacker by the Sporting News. Last year, he led the Badgers was 12.5 tackles for loss and was third with 83 tackles. The Butkus Award Watch List will be trimmed to 10 semifinalists on Oct. 19, then down to three finalists on Nov. 9. The winner will be announced on Dec. 9 in Orlando. Last season, former Badger Dontez Sanders was named to the Watch List.
