Authorities shut down animal shelter in River Falls

September 27, 2006 By WRN Contributor

For the second time in recent months, authorities shut down a River Falls animal shelter.

Jennifer Kamish, a Twin Cities woman who stepped forward to take over the “Cats Meow Dogs Bark” shelter, had promised none of the animals would be killed, but bodies of dozens of animals were found in a freezer. Kamish called the investigation “a personal attack” against her, but Keith Strep with the Minnesota-based Animal Humane Society, said he found many of the animals at the River Falls facility in “disturbing condition.”

Kamish was arrested Tuesday for operating an illegal shelter out of her home in Newport, MN. Authorities there found more than 50 animals in the house.
