Green campaign goes to court over PAC money

September 22, 2006 By WRN Contributor

A decision is expected next week on whether Congressman Mark Green's gubernatorial campaign will have to give up $468,000 in political action committee money. Lawyers for the Green campaign and State Department of Justice were in Dane County court Thursday.

Green attorney Daniel Kelly asked the judge to block a State Elections Board ruling, which ordered Green to divest his campaign fund of money from out-of-state interests. Green's campaign is arguing the transfer of federal funds was allowed. But Assistant Attorney General Chris Blythe say it was limited under state and federal law.

Dane County Judge Richard Niess says he'll try to move the case along quickly. A decision is expected from the judge on Monday.
