Green recieves order to divest PAC money

September 7, 2006 By WRN Contributor

The Mark Green campaign has a decision to make, regarding money from out-of-state political action committees.

The state Elections Board has now given the Green campaign ten days, to divest money — $468,000 — from PACS not registered in Wisconsin. The action came as the result of a complaint by the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign. “The board did the right thing in this case, probably for wrong reasons,” said McCabe, who noted that the board “has been very partisan and very political about these kinds of things, and also very inconsistent.” Even McCabe said, the Green campaign ought to follow the law as interpreted by the Elections Board.

The board issued an order Wednesday, giving Green ten days to make a decision.
