In the 8th: it's Gard, Kagen

September 13, 2006 By WRN Contributor

The 8th District Congressional race pits Republican Assembly Speaker John Gard against Appleton Doctor Steve Kagen.

Republican Gard saw a wide margin of victory over his primary opponent; Assembly colleague Terri McCormick. Gard says he's ready for the next step; he'll face physician Steve Kagen in November. Kagen defeated Nancy Nusbaum and Jamie Wall in Tuesday's primary, and says given White House support for Gard, the race could be a referendum on administration policy.

The race is expected to be one of the most expensive Congressional campaigns in state history, both candidates have strong financial resources.
