More drivers, more chances for accidents

September 1, 2006 By WRN Contributor

You've heard it before but if it can save one life it's worth repeating.

Major Dan Lonsdorf with the State Patrol agrees with Triple A predictions of a busy weekend on the roads and highways. But State Patrol officers will also be out there. Specifically they will be looking for drunk drivers.

It's part of the Over the Limit-Under Arrest crackdown on drunk driving in several midwest states. The Major says people are getting busted including one person who was on probation for a drunk driving homicide several years ago.

Major Lonsdorf says it's early but there are some indications the crackdown is working. This August has been the safest in state history and who's to say the crackdown didn't have a role in that.

The Patrol will also be on the lookout for speeders and motorists not wearing seatbelts.-
