Poppinga to start against Chicago

September 5, 2006 By WRN Contributor

Linebacker Brady Poppinga is preparing to start at the strong side linebacker position for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Chicago Bears at Lambeau Field. Poppinga moved ahead of free-agent pickup Ben Taylor in the final week of the preseason and started the preseason finale against Tennessee. Poppinga, a fourth-round draft pick in 2005, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on Dec. 11 while covering a kickoff against the Detroit Lions. It's an injury that normally takes 9 to 12 months to rehab. Poppinga will have pulled it off in under 9 and said he could have practiced at the start of training camp.
