Wisconsin workers facing diverse issues

September 5, 2006 By WRN Contributor

A new report details the ups and downs facing Wisconsin laborers. The annual study from the Center on Wisconsin Strategy shows several improvements for Wisconsin workers over the last two years, such as more jobs and a higher median wage. Laura Dresser is associate director of the Center on Wisconsin Strategy. She says the report also shows some areas that need improvement, such as fixing the decline in health care and pension security. Wage inequality remains a problem as well, with women and minorities earning up to 25% less than men. Dresser says that's contributing to a higher poverty rate in the state. Dresser says the state needs to take action to help strengthen the system.
