Consumer warning on furniture sales from a truck

October 5, 2006 By WRN Contributor

A warning from the State Consumer Protection Office on furniture sales out of a truck.

Consumer Protection's Glen Loyd says it's an old scam. But someone always seems to fall for it.

A big tractor trailer loaded with furniture drives through your neighborhood. The driver knocks on your door claiming a Wisconsin furniture store refused delivery on the “Made in North Carolina” furniture and his boss wants him to sell it off fast. It looks good and you think you've made a deal.

But Loyd says you'll find out later you could have purchased the same furniture for less at a local store. One couple discovered they could have bought the same furniture for 600-dollars less. Plus you never know where the scam artists got the goods originally. Loyd says probably at a scratch and dent sale.

If a furniture truck driver comes to your door trying to unload a truck load of furniture at “bargain prices”, Loyd says call local police and Consumer Protection at: 800-422-7128.
