Deer hunt begins this weekend in some areas

October 12, 2006 By WRN Contributor

You may see some blaze orange in some of Wisconsin's woods this weekend, as the deer hunting season starts in the special Disease eradication zones. Greg Matthews with the DNR hopes hunters are anxious to get into the woods and help fight CWD. But he has no idea how hunters will respond since there's no Earn-A-Buck incentive this year. Matthews says hunters have said for the past several years that they don't like that framework.

If you?re among those hunters who were against the program, the Matthews is urging you to get out there and bag some deer. He says if they don't get the antler less harvest desired this season, they may have to return to the program next year.
