Green unveils plan to help Milwaukee

October 24, 2006 By WRN Contributor

The Republican candidate for governor says the state needs a new approach to move Milwaukee forward. Congressman Mark Green says high unemployment, failing workforce development efforts, and a racially-driven student achievement gap are signs of a struggling Milwaukee, and it's hurting the rest of Wisconsin. Green says it's not possible for Wisconsin to succeed if Milwaukee falls short.

Green's plan to help Milwaukee includes relocating the Department of Workforce Development to the city to help improve job training in the city. He also wants to give faith-based groups $500,000 in new funding to help fund community based efforts. Green's plan would also expand the school choice program.

Democratic Governor Jim Doyle criticized the plan, saying Green's record in Congress has only hurt Milwaukee.
