Hockey Badgers open season tonight

October 6, 2006 By WRN Contributor

The defending NCAA Champion Wisconsin Badger hockey team opens its 2006-2007 season tonight in Green Bay against Northern Michigan. Wisconsin will be leaning heavily this season on senior goaltender Brian Elliott. He led the nation in winning percentage (.814), goals-against average (1.55)and save percentage (.938) last season and finished in the top three in the voting for the Hobey Baker Award. He should get plenty of help with all defensemen except All-American Tom Gilbert returning. The Badgers will have to replace some of their top scorers, but they're still ranked #1 in the pre-season polls entering the season.
