Lasee scales back guns in school proposal

October 9, 2006 By WRN Contributor

In the wake of several fatal schools shootings, State Representative Frank Lasee (R-Green Bay) announced plans last week to introduce legislation allowing school officials to carry guns. Several state lawmakers and national leaders attacked the plan for being too extreme, suggesting it might even make schools more dangerous. Lasee now says he'll scale back the proposal next spring. Instead, he plans to introduce legislation that would allow for a gun to be kept in a secure location inside a school. He says only school staff who had additional training would have access to the weapon.
