Senate President blasts proposal to allow guns in schools

October 5, 2006 By WRN Contributor

The State Senate President says a proposal to let teachers carry guns in schools has little chance of passing the legislature. State Representative Frank Lasee (R-Green Bay) says Wisconsin schools would be safer if teachers and administrators were allowed to carry handguns, but State Senate President Alan Lasee (R-DePere) says that's just a bad idea. Lasee describes it as a “goofy” idea and wonders how teachers can teach children with a gun present in the classroom.

The two lawmakers are cousins. Senator Lasee says any legislation pushing the proposal next session would have little chance of moving forward. He says the bill is dead if he's still serving as Senate President next spring. Lasee says schools need to improve security and work with law enforcement to reach the goal of safer schools.
