WISPIRG pushes Congress on energy independence

October 6, 2006 By WRN Contributor

A Wisconsin public interest group is pushing for members of Congress to think about the nation's future energy needs. The Wisconsin Public Interest Research Group is calling on Congressional candidates to adopt a plan that will lead the nation towards renewable energy sources and reduce reliance on foreign oil.

Field director Bruce Speight says the nation needs to change its course on energy, in light of the volatile energy market around the world. Speight says the group's new energy platform would help improve the nation's energy independence, by pushing the country to reduce the use of foreign oil and to invest in renewable energy technologies. He says the US has the technology in place, but investments are needed to help renewable resources grow. The proposal is being sent to federal lawmakers across the country.
