Bancroft man missing in Mississippi River

November 29, 2006 By WRN Contributor

Authorities have identified a man who disappeared while working on the Mississippi River on Tuesday. The construction company, E80 Plus Contractors out of Madison, Wisconsin, was doing repair work to a railroad bridge that spans the river at Burlington. Authorities say contrary to early reports the man was not from Florida. 20-year-old Peter Dahms of Bancroft had been working with the crew and he took the "plate boat," a floating work platform, out onto the river a little before 9 Tuesday morning. Burlington Police Lieutenant Darren Grimshaw says winds were high and the river was rough, and the boat capsized. Searchers from law enforcement and the Department of Natural Resources so far have been unable to find him.
