Borseth and coaching staff fail their team

November 30, 2006 By WRN Contributor

The UW-Green Bay Lady Phoenix nearly pulled off an upset over 17th ranked De Paul on Wednesday night, but the Green Bay coaching staff made sure it didn't happen.

With Green Bay leading by 1 with 10-seconds to play, De Paul had the basketball and had to come length of the court.  The Phoenix had just three team fouls, meaning they had three fouls to give before the Blue Demons would be in the bonus.  Green Bay could have fouled three times to take time off the clock and make De Paul shoot more of a desperation shot.  But head coach Kevin Borseth claimed he didn't know how many fouls his team had and none of his assistants helped in that matter either.

How does that happen?  What are these coaches doing?  Green Bay had a chance to knock off a ranked opponent on their own home court and let it get away.  This is division 1 college basketball.  It's inexcusable.

Caprice Smith drilled the game winning jumper with 0.4 seconds left to give the Blue Demons the 71-70 win.  It's just the 11th loss at the Phoenix Sports Center for Green Bay under Borseth.

UW-Green Bay should have been celebrating a win over a ranked opponent today.  All they have to show for it is a loss and a number of people questioning the leadership of the program.
