Packers hoping Barnett can return to lineup

November 30, 2006 By WRN Contributor

The Green Bay Packers missed starting linebacker Nick Barnett last week when he sat out the Seattle game with a broken right hand.  Rookie Abdul Hodge made his first NFL start in Barnett's place but struggled at times.  Barnett made only one solo tackle and added 5 assists with none of them within five-yards of the line of scrimmage.

That performance by Hodge gave the Packers and their fans an idea of just how valuable Barnett is to the team.

Barnett took a step towards being able to return to the field this week when the Packers face the New York Jets at Lambeau Field.  He went through an entire practice on Wednesday with a club-like cast on his broken right hand.  Barnett will test that cast again today to make sure he can effectively make tackles.  If all goes well today, he should be able to play on Sunday.
