Van Hollen rips ad, promises legal action

November 3, 2006 By WRN Contributor

J.B. Van Hollen today jabbed back at an ad run in support of Kathleen Falk. In a conference call with reporters, the Republican candidate for attorney general says Democrat Kathleen Falk has tried and failed to find errors in his record as a prosecutor. "Therefore, she is propagating lies about my prosecution record to try to scare people into voting against me, even though I had done nothing wrong as a prosecutor," said Van Hollen.

He said an ad run in support of Falk by the group Greater Wisconsin misrepresents Van Hollen's actions as Bayfield County D.A. in the case of Stanley Newago, a 20-year-old man convicted of first-degree intentional homicide in the February 2000 stabbing death of a 16-year- old girl. "Simply because the Falk campaign repeats a lie, that I could have taken Stanley Newago of the streets before he committed the murder, doesn't make it true," said Van Hollen.

Van Hollen has scheduled a press conference at 3:00 this afternoon in Milwaukee, regarding legal action in connection with the ad. A spokesman for the Falk campaign said they'd be available for comment after that press conference.
